To put it simply, a heart rate monitor is a device that can tell how fast your heart is beating by measuring the amount of blood passing through the arteries of your body. This can be used to determine the best pace to walk at for your activity level, and in general it is one of the best cardio tools out there.

Heart Rate Variability
The majority of people who use a heart rate monitor for anything other than a cardio activity are doing so to keep track of their heart rate during an activity that is not cardio-based. These people are using the heart rate monitor to monitor their heart rate while doing general activity, like running or biking. While this may be fine for most people, I feel it is important to highlight a few points.
As I mentioned earlier, different types of activity have different heart rate ranges. During aerobic activity, heart rate ranges from 30-100 beats per minute. During strength training, you are looking at ranges of between 40-160 beats per minute. What this means is that your heart rate in general should stay relatively consistent throughout these activities, but that doesn’t mean it always does.
Take for example a basic running session. Your heart rate will likely drop below 100 at some point during your run, which is normal. When it does, that’s great! I recommend that you run with a friend to help keep you on track and motivate you, or walk to get your heart rate back up.
During strength training, you will also drop your heart rate, which is normal. While you are using your exercises, make sure you’re watching how much weight you’re lifting and keeping up a steady pace. Your heart rate will also drop, but you can use this as a helpful indicator to see how hard you’re working. Do your best to have a consistent workout, and a healthy heart rate is a key element to achieving that.
The good news is that with a proper heart rate monitor you can ensure that you maintain a consistent heart rate, without having to worry about the drops and rises of your fitness level.
Which Type Of Exercise is Best For A Walking Heart Rate Monitor?
I believe that you will get the most benefit from a cardio activity, like a walk, in which you are simply walking around. Most people are used to using an exercise bike, which is perfectly acceptable, but in most cases people will burn more calories this way. You can still get a decent workout with a treadmill, but you’re not moving around as much.
Walking however, is very easy, and it allows you to get a good cardio workout without increasing the heart rate. If you want to burn more calories, this is one of the best ways to do so.
It’s also a good way to get better cardiovascular fitness, as you are doing something more than just walking with increased aerobic effort. If you like to run, you can still use a walking heart rate monitor for this type of activity, just make sure you keep the speed and the distance between you and your friend consistent.

Not all apps are created equal. Some of them are highly focused on fitness, while others are intended for general usage. It’s up to you to decide which are worth your time. If you’re looking for an app that is focused on measuring your heart rate, you can also consider the number of supported devices.
My personal favorites for this type of app are Polar and MapMyFitness. They have a large number of devices they support, and each one has a small application to control your experience. This means you don’t have to install a lot of apps, and they all have a wide variety of features you can use. The only downside is that they are a bit more expensive.
How to Buy A Walking Heart Rate Monitor
So you’ve picked a device that you want to buy. Now it’s time to get it home and put it to use.
My preferred method of picking up a monitor is to go to the local department store and see if you can find one that’s been discounted. I haven’t found too many people who have the advantage of using an online retailer, but sometimes they have deals.
Once you’ve found a monitor you want to purchase, you should keep in mind that you can pick up multiple monitors for one price. The price varies for each one, but usually they are fairly cheap.
You can also get monitors that have multiple channels. A multichannel monitor will be able to monitor up to five devices at once, which is a nice feature.
Some people find that their old monitors don’t hold a charge for very long. It’s possible that you’ll get one that will last you the entire week, but if you find yourself looking for one the very next day, it may be time to upgrade.
Buying online is also a great way to go, as you can buy multiple monitors for one price. This is especially good if you are going to buy several monitors in one order. If you’re looking to buy the device and download the app at the same time, you may find that your computer crashes before you’ve downloaded the app.
Take note that the days of buying a computer monitor and then selling it for a profit are long over. These days it’s much more common to buy one computer monitor and then take out a two-year contract with your cable company.
Which leads us to the question, “Can I sell my old monitors to make money?”
Here’s how I get some of my monitors to make money:
Find the device on the internet, either through a reputable store or through Google or Ebay. Typically these devices will sell for around $40 to $70. This may seem a little high, but remember that the used monitors usually have low-end electronics inside of them. I have two monitors that I bought for $35 that still work better than some of my new monitors. Find an open buyer. If you have multiple monitors, your best bet is to find someone who wants multiple monitors. This is likely to be easier if you have the monitors in the same room. You can usually find someone with multiple monitors willing to buy for $80 to $100, which will make your monitor a pretty quick sale. Give the monitor a clean and dust free. You can take this extra step if you’re worried about someone stealing your monitor while you’re away or if you think the monitor has been sitting outside or in a garage for a few days.

Once you’ve purchased your device and you’re ready to start, it’s time to set it up.

Just set your desired time and then select one of the settings on the right-hand side. I set mine to 5 minutes.
Note: With the monitor you won’t have to press a button to communicate with the monitor, instead, your thumb will take over the communication duty. If you need to text someone, you’ll just do it via your thumb (so if you want to text a friend, you won’t have to press a button).
